NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Customs agents at Port Newark uncorked more than they bargained for after inspecting a ship in October.
After opening a container of what they expected to be wine and cheese, agents found a black duffle bag inside.
Inside that bag, authorities say they found more than 35 pounds of cocaine.
The container originated in Australia and was discharged in Cristobal, Panama, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The drugs were turned over to Homeland Security agents.
There is no word yet on arrests, CBS2 reported.
