MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) – The United States Air Force Thunderbirds flying team is returning to Jones Beach next Memorial Day.
That’s the word Tuesday from Sen. Charles E. Schumer, who has lobbied for its return.
“We lost the show for last year, so people were really psyched to have it back after the sequester,” show-goer Bob Friedman said in May.
The Navy’s Blue Angels flying team performed at the show this past May.
Schumer calls the Thunderbirds’ appearance the “cherry on top” of the festive weekend.
As many as 400,000 people attend the annual air show at the Long Island landmark state park.
