NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — An Internal Affairs investigation is underway after video of a violent confrontation between a teenager and an NYPD officer was posted online.

In the video you can hear the crowd react with anger when the plainclothes officer runs up and punches the teenager who was handcuffed and restrained by three other officers, 1010 WINS’ Roger Stern reported.

“Hey, hey hey! Stop it! Get off of him,” one bystander can be heard screaming.

Police Comissioner Bill Bratton said the Internal Affairs Bureau has now stepped in.

“That officer has been suspended pending the investigation going forward,” he said.

Police identified the officer as John McDevit, who is assigned to the 7th Precinct anti-crime unit, Stern reported.

The NYPD said the teen was arrested with two others for allegedly assaulting another person with a cane.

The incident occurred Monday on the Lower East Side.

Sources told CBS2 the teen is Denzel Funderburk. He and the two other teens, ages 16 and 17, were screaming “murder gang” as they allegedly beat the victim, according to sources.

The 20-year-old victim suffered a broken jaw, sources said.

All three were charged with gang assault, sources said. Funderburk is also charged with assault, obstruction, criminal possession of a weapon and other charges, sources said.
