State Police: Driver Killed In Garden State Parkway Crash

HOLMDEL, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A driver was killed on the Garden State Parkway early Saturday morning after their car struck a bridge abutment and burst into flames.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. near milemarker 117 in Holmdel Township.

A spokesman for New Jersey State Police said the driver, who remains unidentified, was headed northbound when the vehicle drifted into the southbound lanes and struck the abutment.

State troopers are still trying to identify the make and model of the car, which was destroyed by the fire.

As police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, it appears no other drivers were involved in the accident.
