Brooklyn Teacher Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Boy, Offering Him Up To Others

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn teacher was arrested Thursday, on allegations that he sexually assaulted a teenage boy and offered to pay him to have sex with other adults.

Wards Grant, 37, was accused of committing the acts with the 16-year-old boy between Nov. 20 and Dec. 19 of last year, sources told CBS2.

The boy told police that he was walking home from school in November when the suspect approached him and asked if he "wanted to make some money," sources said.

The suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the boy, and also allegedly offered him up to other adults for sex in exchange for cash, sources said.

Grant had been with the New York City Department of Education since 2001, and had been teaching at a school in Bedford-Stuyvesant since 2003, sources said.

It was not clear whether the boy in the case was one of his students.

"While the allegations against Mr. Grant are not school-related, they are deeply disturbing," DOE spokeswoman Devora Kaye said in a statement. "DOE took swift action to immediately remove him from the classroom, and he will remain away from students."
