Football Fans Flock To NYC Bars, Restaurants For Super Bowl XLIX

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Super Bowl XLIX has arrived and New Yorkers are gathering at homes and bars across the region to root for their team to win.

The Patriots and Seahawks will face off at University of Phoenix Stadium beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Seahawks fans have already started crowding the sports bar Carlow East on the Upper East Side.

And for Jill Miller this game means more than just football.

"My husband and I just lost everything we own a week and a half ago at the Edgewater and Avalon fire in Edgewater, New Jersey," she told WCBS 880's Jim Smith.

The Millers moved to the Avalon at Edgewater apartment complex six months ago straight from Seattle.

But the couple isn't letting the fire stop them from joining other Seattle transplants at Carlow East, both sporting brand new Seahawks sweatshirts -- one of the few possessions they own.

"All of our Seahawks swag went up in smoke," she said.

And David said a Super Bowl win would do a lot to boost their spirits if only for a few hours.

"A little bit until we get back to our temp housing and realize 'Oh wow, everything burned,'" he said.

But for now, a seat at the bar and the cheering fans is like a second home.
