Police: Man Hit By Car After Breaking Into Long Island Restaurant

GARDEN CITY PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man was arrested after he was struck by a car while fleeing the scene of a burglary in Nassau County, police said.

Julio Cesar Alfaro, 21, of Garden City Park broke into Uncle Bacala's Seafood, located just blocks from his home, after midnight Monday, police said.

As he tried to flee the scene, Alfaro was accidentally struck by a passing car on Jericho Turnpike, police said.

Alfaro got up and continued to run out fear of being caught, police said.

The driver of the vehicle flagged down nearby officers and told them about the accident.

The officers found Alfaro and took him to a hospital where he was treated for a head injury.

Alfaro was arrested after an investigation revealed he was responsible for breaking into the restaurant, police said.

Alfaro is charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief.

He will be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
