New Jersey Couple Reflects On Finding Love Again, Later In Life

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Love knows no boundaries or age, and this Valentine's Day one couple said it's never too late to find romance.

Joe and Mary Lou Kramer told CBS2's Tracee Carrasco that they knew their love was meant to be.

The pair of former teachers laugh, hold hands, and adore each other like they've spent a lifetime together.

Their love story began less than three years ago.

"He taught me how to play pinochle. That's how we met," Mary Lou said.

Both Joe and Mary Lou are in their late 70s and widowed with no children. The couple met at Harrogate Retirement Community in 2012, where their friendship quickly blossomed into something more.

"When we got to know each other the better and longer and more we did, the more we cared for each other, and the more we felt this was the right thing to do," Joe said.

A few months later, on May 18, 2013, the two walked down the aisle. It was a trip that neither thought they would ever take again.

They thought their chances at love had come and gone.

"You don't expect that there will ever be another opportunity to come through again," Joe said.

They said their love is an example that you can find true love anywhere, at any time, at any age.

"It's not a common thing to happen at this age, but if it does you don't back away from it either," he added

Now that they've found each other, they plan to live happily ever after.
