Police: Suspects Took $6,000 From Woman, 91, In Pigeon Drop Scam On Staten Island
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police were seeking two suspects Wednesday, after a 91-year-old woman lost $6,000 in a pigeon drop scam on Staten Island last month.
A female suspect approached the woman around 11:30 a.m. Feb. 18, in a parking lot at 2406 Hylan Blvd. in the New Dorp Beach section of Staten Island, police said.
A male suspect then stopped in front of them and said he had found a bag with a large amount of money inside, police said.
The suspects then convinced the victim into withdrawing $6,000 in cash from Northfield Bank at the Hylan Boulevard address, and upon pulling out her cash, the victim accepted an offer from the female suspect to drive her to a Stop and Shop a short distance away at 2454 Hylan Blvd.
The female suspect then agreed to watch the victim's money inside the vehicle while she was in the store, but when the woman came out of the store, the female suspect had driven off with the cash, police said. The male suspect was not with them.
Police have released photos of the suspect.
