A 'Face Diet' Could Be The Key To Younger Looking Skin

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Who doesn't want to look younger? As CBS2's Meg Baker reported, the key may not be in what you do, but rather what you don't do.

Younger looking skin may be as easy as leaving your face in the buff and makeup free.

"The face diet is where you take two days off from wearing your makeup. So for example if you wear makeup from Monday through Friday, then on Saturday and Sunday you go makeup free," dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman said.

Jaliman said continuously wearing makeup without breaks can actually accelerate the aging process.

"You don't have makeup clogging your pores so you can really give your skin a rest," she said.

To start, Jaliman said cleansing at night is a must.

"That's a good eight hours, if someone's sleeping eight hours, where your skin can rebalance itself, replenish itself," she said.

But what causes aging?

"Bacteria collects and many people who are prone to acne will get acne bumps, others not prone to acne will just have dead skin cells and bumpy skin, and it's just not all that attractive," Jaliman said.

Bianca Daniel said she is going to give the skin diet a try as a preventative measure.

"Most people don't want to have to put on a full face of makeup on Monday morning," Daniel said.

But the results might take time.

"When you start doing this process, you will probably see results in 2-3 months, because that's how long it takes to turn over a whole new layer of skin," Jaliman said.

Doctors remind both women and men to always wear an SPF either in a sunscreen or moisturizer to protect you from the sun, another aging element.
