Army Corp Of Engineers Agrees To Help Find Ways To Curb Fairfield Co. Flooding

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Help to stem the tide of flooding Fairfield County is on the way.

The Army Corp of Engineers has agreed to look at the cause of the heavy flooding and plan ways to curb it.

Congressman Jim Himes, who worked to get it going, said local development is to blame in part for the problem.

"Each rover has a different situation. You know some rivers have had dramatic amounts of development around them like housing developments and other developments that pave over what used to be ground that could absorb rain water," he told WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

Himes said it will be an ongoing project. The eventual solutions, he said, will require funding from the local cities and towns in Fairfield County which have been hit hard by flooding in recent years.
