EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – It’s been the place for sports and entertainment in New Jersey for over 30 years, but on Sunday the curtain fell on the IZOD Center.
The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s performance of “Circus Xtreme” was the final event at the venue before it closes its doors permanently at the end of the month.
The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority Board voted in January to close the venue after projections of an $8.5 million loss for 2015.
The issues began when the New Jersey Devils left the IZOD Center and relocated to the Prudential Center in Newark. The Nets also took the crowds with them when the team moved to Brooklyn.
More than 1,7000 employees will be out of a job due to the shutdown.
