WCBS 880's Marla Diamond spoke with a woman who heard the incident as she walked home with her daughters.

"When I heard the thud, I heard a scream too," she said.

The woman then saw the boy try to get up, but fall back down.

"We were all kind of traumatizing because I'm assuming my girls saw what I saw," the mother said.

Police say the boy suffered a compound fracture and was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

The driver of the car that hit the boy remained at the scene.
