Worker Killed At Construction Site Dirt Collapse In Meatpacking District

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A construction worker was killed Monday, after he was buried by dirt that collapsed at a Meatpacking District construction site.

Police were called at 12:13 p.m. to the construction site at 19 Ninth Ave., at West 12th Street, after the 22-year-old man became buried by dirt.

The man was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital in critical condition, and was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police told 1010 WINS.

The man was working in a hole at the construction site when the dirt gave way and collapsed in on him, police said. No one else was injured.

The New York City Medical Examiner's office will determine the exact cause of the man's death.
