NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Warmer weather is moving in and the fields at Flushing Meadows-Corona park were filling up with kids on Thursday.

"We try to encourage them," one woman said.

Survey: Number Of 'Totally Sedentary' Americans Is On The Rise

As 1010 WINS Darius Radzius reported, the woman was among parents at the park who don't want their kids to fall into the one-third of Americans who don't exercise, according to the Physical Activity Council.

"I think that's not healthy because you're just watching TV and wasting all of that fun time," Kenneth said.

Cameron Jacobs with the Sports and Fitness Industry Association told 1010 WINS that you don't have to train like the pros.

"Making sure you get your 60 minutes a day when you're younger, and active seniors make sure you get your 5,000 steps," he said.

The number of sedentary Americans has risen 18-percent since 2007, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
