Police Arrest 3 For Allegedly Wielding Firearm Along Wilson Avenue In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Three people were arrested in Brooklyn early Saturday morning for allegedly terrorizing people with a gun along Wilson Avenue.

Police said two witnesses went to the 83rd Precinct in Bushwick around 3 a.m. and alerted police of two men and a woman menacing people with a firearm.

An anti-crime team consisting of a sergeant and two officers in plain clothes was sent to the area and quickly encountered the three suspects, police said.

As the sergeant got out of the vehicle, authorities said one of the men crouched behind a parked car with a gun pointed in the direction of the sergeant.

The sergeant, identified by police as James Weibert, then demanded the man drop his weapon and fired one shot. No one was struck, police said.

The suspect then dropped the gun and was taken into custody. Also arrested was a 32-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, according to authorities.

Police said a loaded Interarms .44 caliber revolver was recovered from the scene.

One of the officers was taken to Wycoff Hospital, where he was treated and released for a knee injury incurred while effecting the arrest, police said. The other officer and the sergeant were treated for ringing in their ears.

Police said charges against the three are pending.
