Frantic Search Under Way For Missing NYU Law School Graduate

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A graduate of the NYU School of Law vanished without a trace a week ago, and Monday night, his friends and family were deeply concerned.

As CBS2's Valerie Castro reported, police have also gotten involved in the search for Landon Thomas, 25. Dozens of fliers have been mounted in the section of Harlem near 145th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard where Thomas was last seen.

"The last time I saw him was in the morning, Monday, April 27th," said Thomas' roommate, Roman Zamishka. "We had breakfast together; talked about getting ready for the move."

Zamishka has since led the efforts to find Thomas. He has called hospitals, posted the fliers with his friend's picture, and even created a "Help Find Landon Thomas" Facebook page.

Zamishka said the two were packing up their apartment at 215 W. 145th St. and getting ready to move to a new apartment in Queens.

On Monday, Thomas was supposed to be home, getting together the last of his things. But when Zamishka returned around 6 p.m. a week ago Monday night, Thomas was nowhere to be found.

Phone calls to Thomas' cellphone go straight to voicemail.

"He left his laptop at home; his driver's license, which he sometimes left when he was going out. All his clothes were there," Zamishka said.

Thomas is from Kalamazoo, Michigan. CBS2 spoke to his mother, Patricia Thomas by phone.

"This is out of the norm, and all of Landon's friends will tell you how responsible of a person he is," Patricia Thomas said.

Thomas' mother said she is hopeful nothing is seriously wrong.

"I just know he's out there somewhere, and I just don't know what's going on," she said.

Zamishka said his roommate was under a lot of pressure studying to pass the bar exam. He graduated from law school at NYU recently.

"This is a guy who's highly intelligent; highly responsible; always friendly," Zamishka said. "He got along with everyone."

The NYPD has opened a missing persons case. Zamishka hopes there is a simple explanation for his friend's disappearance.

"Landon, we're here for you if you're somewhere out there," Zamishka said. "Come back. We love you."

Landon Thomas is about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs about 300 pounds. He was last seen wearing white sneakers, a black sweater and jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.

The NYU School of Law released a statement, saying it was actively assisting in the search and also asking anyone with information to contact Dean of Students Arthur Fama right away.
