Mets Minor League Catcher Adrian Abreu Suspended 80 Games For Drug Test

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Mets catcher Adrian Abreu has been suspended for 80 games following a positive test for metabolites of Stanozolol under baseball's minor league drug program.

The discipline was announced Thursday by the commissioner's office.

The 24-year-old, in his sixth minor league season in the Mets' organization, was hitting .273 with three RBIs in 33 at-bats this year with Class A Savannah of the South Atlantic League after batting .097 in 31 at-bats with Class A St. Lucie.

There have been 71 suspensions this year under the minor league drug program.
