Mets Fan Attempting To Raise $3M To Give To Wilpons So They Can Add Bat

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Etan Bednarsh, like most Mets fans, is frustrated.

He wants to see his team spend money and acquire a bat. And he's decided to do something about it.

Bednarsh created a YouTube video and a GoFundMe page in an effort to raise $3 million so the Amazin's can add a hitter. He plans to give the money to the Wilpons to spend.

"The Mets have become like an aging parent, and they need me more than I need them," he said in the video. "And I need you to help them."

On Bednarsh's page, a message reads:

My name is Etan. I love the Mets. And I hate that I have to make this video.

But the Mets need a hitter. And their owners lost all their money in a ponzi scheme and reports now say the Mets won't pay 2 to 3 million dollars to acquire a hitter before the trade deadline.

So here's what we need: 3 million dollars to give to the New York Mets so they can get what they need most: a guy who can hit in the middle of the order.

So donate what you can afford. Let's! Go! Fund. The Mets.

You can donate $5 (Mayberry Level), $20 (Muno Level), $50 (Campbell Level), $100 (Lagares Level), $500 (Cuddyer Level), $1,000 (Flores Level), $10,000 (Tejada Level) or $50,000 (Murphy Level).

There's also an option to donate a different amount of money, of your choice.

Donors will only get charged if the $3 million goal is met. The page will exist for another six days.

As of Friday afternoon, 37 pledges were made and $750 was raised.
