WARREN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Two people were shot and killed during a standoff in Warren, New Jersey Sunday and the suspected gunman is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police confirm.
Beginning sometime before 2 p.m., the suspect shot the two people before barricading himself inside a home near Mountain Boulevard and Town Center Drive, CBS2’s Valerie Castro reports.
Somerset County Prosecutor said the gunman allegedly shot a man and woman before shooting himself, ending a 6-hour long standoff.
“There was a series of, around 12:55, of three gunshots and I could hear them reverberating in my driveway, very brief quiet and then 3 more shots,” said neighbor Christine Reo.
A police SWAT team surrounded the home and SWAT teams and mutual aid from nearby towns were also called in, sources said.
The double murder suicide shut down the neighborhood for most of the day. Road blocks were set up and residents were kept away.
