Woman Accused Of Mowing Down Pedestrian At Traffic Light In Central Islip

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island woman appeared in court on charges she ran a woman down with her car.

As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, Kendra Sterling stood up in court wearing a T-shirt that read "Only God can judge me."

The 24-year-old is accused of stopping at a traffic light in Central Islip and as a female pedestrian was crossing the street, prosecutors said Sterling began staring at the woman and giving her dirty looks.

When the woman questioned Sterling on her behavior, police said Sterling hit the gas, running the woman over.

The woman went flying over the top of the car. She suffered a fractured skull, facial cuts and needed surgery.

Sterling pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault. The judge set bond at $100,000.

Authorities said Sterling was charged earlier this year with choking a different woman, obstructing her breathing.
