Teen Killed, 2 Seriously Hurt After Car Crashes Into Home On Long Island

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A teenager is dead and two other people are seriously hurt after a car crashed into a home on Long Island.

Eurydice Adams could not hold back tears while talking about her daughter's best friend, 17-year-old Kenya Jimenez, who was killed in the single-car accident on Sunday.

"It was so, so heartbreaking," Adams told CBS2's Andrea Grymes. "She was such a sweet girl. Every time I saw her, I loved her. So sweet."

Police said Adams' 18-year-old daughter Chyna along with Jimenez and 20-year-old Robert Jones were all passengers riding in a Nissan Maxima being driven by 19-year-old Aramis Broadus Sunday night.

Around 9 p.m., police said Broadus was headed north on Little East Neck Road near Gordon Avenue in West Babylon when he lost control of the car and hit a telephone pole before slamming into a home.

Neighbor Leo Jackson heard the impact.

"Me and my wife, we were in our room watching a movie and I heard it from my house," he told WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs. "It sounded like a bomb."

Despite the impact, Adams said her daughter somehow called her from the car.

"I just heard a lot of screaming and 'Help! Mommy, mommy help me!" she said.

Adams had no idea where they were, just that they had gone to Robert Moses Beach. She said she called 911 and police quickly tracked the car down.

West Babylon Fire Chief Peter McArdle described a grisly scene.

"Upon arrival, we did find three persons in the vehicle that were trapped," he said. "The driver did self-extricate and was lying by the side of the road when we got here."

Chyna Adams, Jones and Jimenez were all taken to the hospital where Jimenez later died, police said.

Jones is being treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries. Adams was also seriously hurt. Her mother said her daughter has several broken bones and will need surgery, but she's grateful she's talking.

"I thought the worst and then when they said your daughter's alive, I said 'thank God, thank God,'" she said.

Broadus was treated for minor injuries and released.

The house has been condemned by the fire marshal and the town building inspector due to the extensive damage caused by the crash, police said.

"That car must be speeding really fast because as you can see, the front of the house looks like it's about to collapse," one man, who lives in the house but wasn't home at the time of the crash, told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria.

No one inside the home was hurt.

The investigation is ongoing.
