NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/CBS News) — Concern was mounting Wednesday over a new issue of a magazine published by al Qaeda, which renewed its call for lone wolf attacks and assassinations of prominent figures.

A law enforcement source told CBS News the latest issue of INSPIRE magazine was particularly troubling given that it was released just days before the 14th anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, which the magazine referred to as “the blessed 9/11 operation,” CBS News reported.

The terror group also said in the magazine that it is seeking specifically to recruit African-Americans, saying they are “against the oppression and injustices directed towards you,” CBS News reported.

The 45-page issue, entitled “Assassination Operations,” calls for Muslims in the west to join the jihad caravan, CBS News reported.

The English-language INSPIRE, produced by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, aims to recruit, teach, and persuade its followers to commit terrorist acts in the United States, CBS News reported.
