Bike To Breath Day 2 - We love Maine!

I got a good night's sleep and my legs felt a little flat but I was ready for day 2.  It's all for the CF and TX Community – we are all in this together.

So, Em and I had about 80 miles ahead of us to get to Portland, ME and the weather was as perfect as the scenery. We had a great day, making several pit stops and meeting really cool people along the way. And, one of the things we felt great about was that we saw a sign indicating that cars have to be at least three feet from cyclists. I wish other states would take Maine's lead and post these as well! We love Maine so much…

About 25 miles in, we stopped at a phenomenal country market, and I couldn't help but grab a fresh banana and some other snacks for fuel. My appetite goes a bit nuts when I ride – it's all par for the course – as well as monitoring my sugar levels.

43 miles in – time to refuel again with blueberries, peaches, apples, raisin pecan bread, and energy balls – made of peanut butter, chocolate chips, oats and protein. Great thing about Maine so far has been all the healthy stops we've been able to make. And, in between these stops, I'm also taking care of the things I need to, like taking my meds and keeping my skin safe from the sun.

Then we knew we were really in Maine when we saw the HUGE L.L.Bean boot. No way were we going to miss an opportunity to get a shot with this. I know it may seem strange, but this was actually pretty cool and also gave us a few minutes off the saddle.

And, what better way to finish the day then at Walgreen's? They've been a partner of ours and when we pulled up, they actually had a welcome note on the billboard outside of the store! Not only did we stock up with some healthy snacks, but I also got my flu shot. With a lower immune system, the flu isn't something I'd ever want to mess with, so I decided, no time like the present then to get my flu shot. Best part – took no time at all!

To wrap up Day 2, Em and I road about 14 miles more than yesterday for a total of 81 miles, finishing in about 6 hours and 27 minutes. The good news – so far we're on schedule! And well, I'm a bit obsessed with the weather reports – it helps me and the team prep properly for each day to stay on our schedule. The good news is that tomorrow is looking good, real good – a clear day! We'll say goodbye to Maine and head to Portsmouth, NH. Now it's time for me to get into an ice bath and hit the sack – need to get these legs ready for tomorrow!
