Hydraulics Problem Forces Flight To Ireland To Return To JFK
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A plane headed to Shannon, Ireland had to return to John F. Kennedy International Airport Monday evening due to a problem with its hydraulics.
There were also reports of smoke or a fire in the plane's gear upon landing.
Around 7:30 p.m., AerLingus Flight 11EA, a Boeing 757, had to turn around and return to JFK. The plane landed safely on Route 22 left, the Federal Aviation Administration reported.
The FAA said the pilot reported a fire in the main gear, while the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said the brakes only caused a smoke condition. Firefighters put out the fire or smoke immediately and no one was injured, the FAA and the Port Authority said.
Passengers were bused back to the terminal, the Port Authority said.
