ALPINE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A man was found dead on a Palisades Interstate Park hiking trail Alpine, New Jersey Sunday afternoon, police said.

Palisades Interstate Parkway police were called around 12:30 p.m. Sunday about a possible deceased person on the trail, police said.

The man’s body was found about three quarters of as mile north of the police department headquarters, police said.

The man was identified as Hugh Degnen, 54, of Harrington Park, New Jersey, police said.

Degnen was already dead when officers arrived, police said.

It was not believed that there was any outside influence or suspicious circumstance in Degnen’s death, but an autopsy by the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s office will determine the exact cause.
