Queens, Nassau County To Cheer On World Series-Bound Mets At Monday Rallies

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mets fans don't have to wait until Game 1 of the World Series to cheer for their favorite team again.

Rallies are being held Monday in front of Queens Borough Hall and the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola.

The Queens rally will be held from 3 to 5 p.m.

The event will include special appearances by former Mets John Franco and Edgardo Alfonzo as well as broadcasters Alexa Datt Rosenberg and Branden Wellington, Miss New York 2015 Jamie Lynn Macchia and Mr. and Mrs. Met.

"Calling all New Yorkers everywhere, it's time to bring out your orange and blue," Queens Borough President Melinda Katz said in a news release. "This hometown rally will be all about New York pride to fuel the Amazin's momentum into the World Series. Ya Gotta Believe -- now Let's Go Mets!"

Family-friendly activities include Mets trivia, a rock climbing wall, face-painting, a "dry" dunk tank and raffles.

The first 500 people in attendance will receives free Mets T-shirts.

The event is open to the public, and admission is free.

For safety reasons, the westbound lanes of Queens Boulevard between 82th Avenue and 80th Road will closed to traffic from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Officials are urging fans to use public transportation.

The Nassau County rally begins at 5 p.m. Fans are urged to wear their favorite Mets attire.

The Mets and Royals square off in Game 1 in Kansas City, Mo., at 8:07 p.m. Tuesday.
