5 Friends Split $106 Million NY Mega Millions Jackpot Win

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Five friends from Yonkers and New Jersey scored big when they won $106 million from a Mega Millions jackpot drawing on Sept. 11 this year.

Edgar Lopez, 52, a limousine driver from Yonkers, was the one to purchase the winning Quick Pick ticket at Yonkers Grocery and Convenience on Yonkers Avenue.

Yonkers residents Miguel Acosta, along with Manuel and Acela Hernandez, and Angela Pajes, of New Jersey, all pooled in with Lopez to purchase the ticket.

"We take turns buying tickets and it was my turn," Lopez said in a release. "We promised each other that we would split the prize if we ever won."

According to Lopez, the group has been pooling together for lottery tickets for about 10 years.

Each member of the group will recevie a lump sum payment of $13,102,595 -- an even five-way split of the winnings. The four New York winners will receive net checks of $8,477,726 and Pajes will receive a net check of $8,671,297, according to a release from the New York Lottery.

"We are all very, very happy," Lopez said in a release. "We have worked hard all of our lives, and to have this happen is just amazing."

The winning numbers for the Sept. 11 Mega Millions drawing were 05, 11, 31, 50, 67 and Mega Ball 14.
