CBS News/New York Times Poll: Democrats Favor Clinton, See Trump As Toughest To Beat
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/CBS News) -- A CBS News/New York Times poll released Thursday indicated that Hillary Rodham Clinton remained at the top among Democratic presidential candidates, while Donald Trump is considered the toughest Republican challenger.
The poll, taken between Friday, Nov. 6 and Tuesday, Nov. 10, showed Clinton with 52 percent support among Democratic voters, compared with Bernie Sanders at 33 percent and Martin O'Malley at 5 percent.
But Sanders led among voters under 45 and independents.
Poll respondents believe Clinton has the best chance of winning in November 2016, while Trump will be the most difficult Republican candidate for a Democratic nominee to defeat.
Clinton has a large advantage with women, but just a narrow lead among men, CBS News reported. Clinton also has a 41-point lead over Sanders among those who are older than 45.
Clinton gets strong support from self-identified Democrats (63 percent), while Sanders leads among independents (54 percent) who plan to vote in a Democratic primary, CBS News reported.
Clinton was also seen as stronger than Sanders on handling international crisis and gun laws, and she had a slight edge on issues regarding the economy.
