Police Arrest Suspect In Coney Island Rape Case

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The NYPD has arrested the man it believes raped a woman in a Coney Island stairwell over the weekend.

Raji Wilson, 31, was arrested Wednesday morning in Coney Island for allegedly attacking the 20-year-old victim as she returned home from a yoga class, police told CBS2.

At around 9 p.m. on Sunday, police said Wilson pulled out a gun, dragged the woman off an elevator and into a stairwell, and raped her.

Police told CBS2 that after the rape, Wilson told the woman he would kill her because she saw his face. When the victim pleaded for her life, police said Wilson told her to walk up the stairs, and that's when he fled the scene.

Wilson also allegedly stole the woman's cash and keys.

The victim was rushed to Coney Island Hospital.

Police believe that about an hour after the rape, Wilson robbed another woman at gunpoint as she was getting out of an elevator on West 12th Street in Coney Island. He got away with $30, police said.
