NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — What do you get when you mix Tchaikovsky’s famous score with a group of all-star dancers, an electrical violinist and a DJ?

“The Hip Hop Nutcracker,” an explosive holiday show like no other.

The show returns Saturday to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.

Director and choreographer Jennifer Weber stopped by the CBS2 studios to talk about the show while some of the dancers performed.

“I was thinking that the sort of classic texts of theater are always updated, so it would be really cool to update the classic texts of dance,” Weber told CBS2’s Andrea Grymes. “And what’s more famous in dance than ‘The Nutcracker’?”
