High School Football Player, Born Without Left Hand, Gets To Meet Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Kris Silbaugh is Cambridge Springs High School's star wide receiver -- the 18-year-old senior runs a 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds and broke his school's all-time receiving yards and touchdown records.

And he does it with only one hand.

As CBS News' Don Dahler reported, the all-star high school football player from Pennsylvania recently traveled to New Jersey for an inspiring meet-and-greet with the New York Giants.

"I always believed I could do whatever I put my mind to," Silbaugh said. "Some things may be harder than others, but if I work at it I always believed that I could do it."

Silbaugh was born without his left hand, and was raised in the Erie, Pennsylvania foster care system. Silbaugh was adopted by Frank and Mary Tipping three years ago.

"He's had to, in sports, check off if he's had any disabilities at all and he always checks "no" which I think is awesome," Mary Tipping said. "We've never seen anything in him - in three years - that he hasn't been able to do."

Silbaugh looks up to New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham, who's famous for his astounding one-handed catches.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin, who introduced Silbaugh to the team, took the opportunity as a lesson and a chance to inspire his players.

"There are millions of people who tell you all your life 'no' what you can't do," Coughlin said. "Millions of people who tell you you're not good enough, you can't do this, you can't do that. This is why this is such a great story. He just broke the all-time receiving record at his high school."

Silbaugh has already fielded some college offers and said he would like to continue his football career.
