About 20 cars were involved in an accident on southbound Route 1 & 9 at Tonnele Circle. Cars spun out and scattered, injuring at least two people, Sanchez reported.

In Clifton, parts of westbound Route 3 and southbound Route 17 also had to be shut down after slippery roads caused accidents in those areas as well.

Crews were busy loading up trucks with salt in East Rutherford, hitting the Garden State Highway to prevent them from freezing over during the overnight hours.

In New York City, salt trucks were out doing rounds as well, treating the street to prevent the build-up of ice.
