Schwei's Devils Notes: Schneider Shutout Among All-Time Great NJ Performances

The New Jersey Devils return home this week after going 2-2 on their four-game, western road trip.

The Devils salvaged the final game of the road swing with a 2-0 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday afternoon.

Cory Schneider matched his season high with 38 saves, including 13 in the third period, to record his third shutout in his last 13 starts and his fourth of the season overall.

The Elias Sports Bureau notes that Schneider also matched his high for saves in a shutout during his three seasons with the Devils. Schneider's other 38-save shutout for New Jersey was also against the Coyotes, a 3-0 victory on Feb. 23 last year in Newark.

Only three other goaltenders in Devils franchise history posted a shutout in which they made at least 38 saves:

Reid Boucher scored his first NHL goal of the season 3:52 into the contest to give the Devils a 1-0 lead, and New Jersey went on to win, improving its record when scoring first to 14-0-3 this season.

The Devils lost to the Avalanche, 3-0, on Thursday night in Denver. Colorado goaltender Calvin Pickard posted the first shutout of his NHL career in the win, the sixth all-time in the regular season against New Jersey by the Colorado Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques franchise:

The Devils lost to the Blues, 5-2, Tuesday night in St. Louis. Patrik Berglund scored a pair of power play goals for the Blues in the win. According to hockey-reference.com, since the 1987-88 NHL season, five players have had two games with at least two power play goals against New Jersey:

Plus: On the Shot End. New Jersey was outshot 38-16 in its win over Arizona. The Devils now have an NHL-best 18 wins in games in which they have allowed more shots than their opponent.

Minus: On the Short End. The Devils allowed their seventh shorthanded goal in the loss to Colorado, the second-most given up in the NHL (Arizona, 8).
