NYPD Holds Active Shooter Training For Restaurant, Nightlife Workers
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Restaurant and nightlife workers packed a venue in the Village for active shooter training program on Wednesday.
Attendees learned how to prepare, respond and assist police, CBS2 reported. The course was voluntary and free.
"We kind of let everybody we want into our venues so we have no idea who's coming in and who's planning what," Paul Seres, of the NYC Hospitality Alliance, said. "I think the more information that we can get out to the venues and the operators, the safer New York City's going to be."
According to the NYPD, there was an increase in requests for training sessions following the deadly attacks in Paris and San Bernardino.
"People are concerned and they've written in and they've called and that's why we're out doing things like this," NYPD Lieutenant Robert Corbett said.
The NYPD is urging restaurant and club owners to have plans in place and to conduct drills with all employers.
