Several Broadway Shows Extending 2-For-1 Tickets Following Blizzard

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP)-- New York's massive snowfall might have a silver lining on Broadway.

Dozens of shows have agreed to extend their two-for-one tickets deal an extra few days to make up for lost business after Saturday's cancellations. Broadway Week, currently in effect, will now run to Feb. 7.

The travel ban and suspension of public transportation by government authorities prompted all Broadway matinee and evening performances to be cancelled on Saturday, January 23rd.

The winter storm that barreled into New York over the weekend made a mess of Broadway box office receipts, with most shows reduced to six performances instead of eight when Saturday went dark.

The Broadway League said Tuesday that the grosses for the week ending Sunday were $15,977,958, a 39 percent drop from last week's haul of $26,239,268. Every show lost money. Attendance also dropped to 174,717 last week from 257,867 the previous week.

The poor results were expected since a key weekend day was lost when New York was hit with a one-day record of 26.6 inches of snow.

The participating shows extending are "Aladdin,'' "Allegiance,'' "An American in Paris,'' "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical,'' "Chicago,'' "The Color Purple,'' "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,'' "Fiddler on the Roof,'' "Finding Neverland,'' "Fun Home,'' "The Humans,'' "Jersey Boys,'' "The King and I,'' "Kinky Boots,'' "Les Miserables,'' "Matilda the Musical,'' "On Your Feet!'' "Our Mother's Brief Affair,'' "The Phantom of the Opera,'' "School of Rock,'' "Something Rotten!'' "A View From the Bridge'' and "Wicked."
