Devils Deal Lee Stempniak To Bruins, Acquire Devante Smith-Pelly From Canadiens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New Jersey Devils dealt their top scorer on the NHL's trade deadline day.

The Devils shipped right winger Lee Stempniak to the Boston Bruins for a 2016 fourth-round draft pick and a 2017 second round pick.

The 33-year-old Stempniak had 16 goals and 41 points for the Devils. He signed a one-year, $850,000 contract before the season.

The Devils made two other deals on the day. They sent defenseman Eric Gelinas to the Colorado Avalanche for a 2017 third-round pick and acquired right winger Devante Smith-Pelly from the Montreal Canadiens for prospect Stefan Matteau.

Smith-Pelly only had 12 points in 46 games for Montreal.

The Devils are currently three points out of the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference with 19 games to play.
