MIDDLE ISLAND, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Police are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide inside a Suffolk County home.

A 54-year-old woman — identified by Suffolk County police as Fahriye Ugan — was found dead inside the home she shared with her 41-year-old husband on Summersweet Drive in Middle Island just before 9 p.m. Sunday, WCBS 880’s Mike Xirinachs reported.

The 41-year-old husband — identified as Edrem Gulay — was found with what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds, Xirinachs reported.

He was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead of his wounds late Monday.

Police said the man’s stab wounds appeared to be self-inflicted and there appeared to be a smell of natural gas, Xirinachs reported. Authorities stopped calling the incident of a murder-suicide attempt, saying they wanted first to interview Gulay in the hospital.

Authorities confirmed they have been called to the house in the past for verbal quarrels.
