Knicks Decide Against Re-Signing Fredette To Another Short Deal
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Knicks won't re-sign Jimmer Fredette to a second 10-day contract.
The former college player of the year appeared in two games with the Knicks, making a 3-pointer on his lone shot attempt. His deal expired Wednesday and the team elected not to give him another.
Teams can sign players to two consecutive 10-day contracts, then must offer them a contract for the rest of the season if they want to keep them beyond that.
Fredette has spent most of the season playing for the Knicks' NBA Development League affiliate, where he averaged 21.8 points. The Knicks called him up Feb. 22, but interim coach Kurt Rambis made it clear the former BYU sharpshooter would have to outplay the guards already on the roster.
Fredette had averaged 6.0 points for three NBA teams before the Knicks.
