Man Tied Up During Armed Home Invasion In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork)-- It's not often that Stamford police have to deal with a home invasion, and in this case they believe the suspects entered the house knowing the owners were proprietors of a popular Mexican restaurant in the city.

Lieutenant Diedrich Hohn said while inside the home Monday evening, the men encountered the 23-year-old son of the owners and asked him if the family owned the restaurant. When the son replied no, the men tied him up and left the property without taking anything.

"They probably believed that this house had a large amount of cash because after the restaurant closes, you tend to bring cash home, or you're bringing it right to the bank, and they probably believe there's a large amount of cash in that home, which there wasn't," Hohn told WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau.

He said police got a break after the daughter of the owners, who was upstairs, got a good look at the silver Audi the gunmen were driving, distinctive with one rear light missing and other features.

However, there has been no description provided for the armed men, who were wearing masks at the time of the break-in.
