MIDDLE ISLAND, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Police were investigating Sunday after a man’s body was found in a wooded area behind a shuttered store in Middle Island.

A dog walker found the man’s body around 3 p.m. on Saturday, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the man’s body was discovered in a wooded area behind a shuttered Kmart store on Middle Country Road. The property has remained vacant since the store closed almost a decade ago.

Police said the man’s death is considered a homicide, but declined to say how he died.
