Police: Man Slashed In Face During Violent Carjacking On Long Island
ROOSEVELT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for two suspects in connection to a violent carjacking on Long Island.
According to police, the victim was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Nassau Road at Clinton Avenue in Roosevelt at around 10 p.m. Thursday when two masked men reached into the open window of his vehicle, demanded money and slashed him in the arm and chin, CBS2's Carolyn Gusoff reported.
The panicked victim then got out of his car and the armed robbers jumped in, leaving with the car, the victim's phone and his wallet.
The driver ran for help at a nearby deli. The car was later found down the block in front of a vacant home.
Police are still investigating the incident and no arrests have been made.
The 46-year-old victim has not been identified. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
Neighbors say the violent carjacking is a new low for the community, which has has problems with crime in the past.
"This is the first I have ever heard of somebody going to someone's car at a light and carjacking their car," Melissa McGuire, of Roosevelt, said. "Police really need to get on their grind."
Nassau County police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
