Newark Detective Accused Of Making Woman Perform Sex Act On Police Property

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A Newark police detective has been charged with coercing a woman to perform a sex act on police property, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Detective Kenneth Gaulette, 33, of Manalapan, was charged with sexual assault and criminal coercion in the incident on Nov. 29 of last year, according to the Essex County, New Jersey Prosecutor's office.

Prosecutors claimed that Gaulette forced the 40-year-old woman to perform the sex act on Newark police property, and suggested that she would receive favorable treatment from police if she performed the act.

Gaulette is has been a police officer for nine years, prosecutors said. He started out with the Newark Police Department and was laid off in 2010, but returned two years later, prosecutors said.

Essex County Judge Ronald Wigler set bail for Gaulette at $75,000, prosecutors said. Gaulette surrendered Wednesday and posted bail, prosecutors said.
