Port Authority Kicks Off $112 Million Palisades Parkway Improvement Project
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Get ready for years of on and off delays from the Palisades Parkway to the George Washington Bridge.
Over the next three months, the Port Authority will be kicking off a $112 million project to demolish and rebuild the ramp to the bridge and fix the overpass that extends the approach to the span, WCBS 880's Kelly Waldron reported.
According to Bob Durando, general manager of the George Washington Bridge and bus terminal, there are 11 different improvement projects that comprise the program. The projects will be staggered over a period of 7-10 years, with construction work being done mostly during off-peak and overnight hours.
"Port Authority priority is to protect the rush hour, to protect the commuter," Durando said.
Police have also been developing strategies to prevent major backups.
