Papers Also Say Julius Reich Told Cop: "You're Not My Boyfriend"

SCARSDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — There was new information Monday in the case against a Scarsdale man accused of stabbing his wife to death as she took a shower.

Court documents show within a few hours of the murder, the alleged killer told police he was grieving, but also in a joking mood.

As CBS2’s Tony Aiello reported, Julius “Jules” Reich and Robin Goldman were in the middle of a divorce when she was murdered.

New court documents have provided insight into the alleged words and actions of Reich. His 911 call brought Scarsdale police to the couple’s mansion on Lincoln Road, where they found a bloody knife hidden inside of a folded newspaper.

The documents said Reich told responding officers it was probably a homicide, and later said, “I would like to take some of my prescription medicine for anxiety.”

Reich also asked if he would be able to join mourners at Goldman’s funeral, documents said.

Documents further said While at police headquarters, Reich asked a cop, “What do you think of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton?”

Documents said he also awkwardly joked with another officer saying, “You’re not my boyfriend, you know.”

Former homicide prosecutor Troy Smith said the prosecution’s case looks strong, and an insanity defense is a possibility.

“That he has this affirmative defense, a lack of mental responsibility — essentially, that he didn’t understand right from wrong,” Smith said.

The documents also detail police interest in the apartment that Reich had been living in on East 65th Street.

When police applied for a search warrant, they told the judge they were particularly interested in any knives made by the same company that manufactured the murder weapon — raising the possibility that Reich took a knife from his apartment on the Upper East Side, Aiello reported.

Dr. Goldman was a respected pediatrician at the Montefiore Medical Group Family Health Center in the Bronx. Reich worked as a financial adviser.

Reich is slated to return to court on Wednesday.
