Police: Man Slashed After Trying To Stop Suspect From Beating Dog

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York City police say they are looking for a suspect who slashed a man in the head after the victim tried to confront him for punching and beating a dog with a belt.

Police released details Saturday about the May 24 incident that occurred in front of a home on Staten Island.

They say a 32-year-old man was passing by when he saw a man punching, kicking and beating a dog with a belt.

Investigators say the victim tried to intervene but the suspect pulled out a knife and slashed him above the eye.

Police released surveillance video Saturday that they say shows the suspect walking with another man, who was holding a white dog on a leash. Detectives are looking to speak with both of the men.
