NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)– Get out your swimsuits and sunscreen, Rockaway boardwalk is now fully reopened for the summer.

“I was here when Sandy happened and we had no boardwalk since Sandy, so it’s like the real first day of summer for Rockaway,” one local told CBS2’s Esha Ray.

The last nine blocks finished renovations just in time for Fourth of July weekend.

As for the construction that’s still left to be done, Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver said all work will be finished by Memorial Day next year.
