Sword-Wielding Man Menacing People In Brooklyn Park Stunned By Police

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York City police say they had to use a stun gun to subdue a man who was menacing people at a Brooklyn park with swords in both hands.

Police responded to Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick around 8 p.m. Monday, The Daily News reported. Authorities say about 50 people pointed out the suspect, who ran from the park down Irving Avenue to Troutman Street.

Sgt. Brendan Ryan says officers surrounded the 56-year-old suspect when he unsheathed two swords and told them, "You're going to have to kill me.''

Police fired a stun gun and took the man into custody. They say they also found a machete and two smaller knives in a duffel bag.

Authorities didn't immediately identify the suspect.
