University of Connecticut Loses Track Of 15 Human Skulls, Skeleton

FARMINGTON, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Fifteen human skulls and an entire human skeleton are among more than 100 items that have been reported missing from the University of Connecticut Health Center after a routine inventory.

The Hartford Courant reports health center officials told the state they believe the items were disposed of without the necessary paperwork.

UConn officials submitted a report last month to the state auditor's office saying a private company was unable to locate the items during an independent inventory.

In the report, Keith Petit, the hospital's logistics property supervisor, says 102 items are unaccounted for, primarily laboratory equipment.

Hospital spokeswoman Lauren Woods says the total value of the missing items was believed to be around $36,000.

The report does not suggest any skullduggery has occurred.
