Police: Man Sexually Assaulted Woman On Greenwich Village Street

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Thursday were searching for a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman in Greenwich Village this past weekend.

Police said around 4 a.m. Saturday, the suspect came up to the 20-year-old woman near 10th Street and Fifth Avenue and put her into a bear hug before he sexually assaulted her, police said.

The victim refused medical treatment initially, but she was later taken to an area hospital for observation, police said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male between the ages of 25 and 35, standing 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 140 to 170 pounds with medium-length dark hair. He was last seen wearing jeans, a short sleeve shirt, and a dark baseball cap, and he was also wearing a backpack, police said.

Police released surveillance video of a suspect.
